Memories of Italy

It’s cold in Denver, five degrees and I am stuck inside. I was thinking of more enjoyable times and I was viewing my photos from Italy trip taken in 2007. I thought I would share a few and since it is simple to add pictures when using Windows Live Writer. I really enjoyed Pisa and these photos are of Pisa. That leaning tower is really a site to see.

I am enjoying working with this Window Live Writer. I am having a little difficulty placing the photos though. Have a nice evening and stay out of the cold and snow.

The sacred entitlement programs

It’s time for Congress to address the holy cows of the entitlement world. That is Social Security and Medicare. These two cash cows is driving this country to bankruptcy.  Sure Congress can fool around and cut discretionary programs but the solution to our debt problem is the entitlement programs everyone avoids.

The November elections told Congress that the American public want action. They want their elected officials to address the hard issues and bring this country back to the greatness of a world leader not a country that owes the world trillions of dollars.

It will be hard on everyone but if it is not tackled soon the country will go bankrupt and where we you be then?

I was another winner

How do you want to die?

When you are young you don’t think much of dying. You tend to think you are immortal and death as a far away fact. as you become older you start to think more about dying and death.

I am close to sixty-nine and I am thinking more about death than when I was younger. My parents passed away when they were seventy-five and their health problems started to appear in their late sixties. The same age I am in right now. Is the family legacy going to follow me or will I not follow in the paths of my parents.

                            grim reaper

My mother was afflicted with bone cancer and battled this disease for more than five years. after removal of the cancer and many treatments of chemo and radiation the demon went into remission. After four or five years the demon came back very aggressively. It migrated  to others parts of her body and finally took her. Her death was slow and very painful.

My father was visiting California and he was scheduled to start driving home in the morning. He called me the next morning said he had an upset stomach and was going to wait another day before he started to drive home. That evening his niece called and said she went to get some take out for dinner and when she returned my father was found on the floor dead. He was having a heart attack and didn’t even know it. That major mistake cost him his life.

Recently my true friend had multiple heart by-pass surgery. He is in his mid seventies. How long will this surgery extend his life? Only time will tell. Will this life saving surgery expose him to a more painful and slow death? This surgery may save him from heart failure to just have to experience the pain and suffering of Cancer. Cancer and heart disease is the biggest killer in the US.

A couple of years ago another friend of mine was running his snow-blower and fell over dead from an Aortic aneurism. he died before his wife found him laying on the ground in the snow.

My wife’s mother is in her nineties and in the last year she has deteriorated to the point that she cannot walk and has lost all control of her bodily functions. Medical authorities say her heart and lungs sound good. How long will she have to endure in the sorry state? The quality of life has taken a bad turn for her.

These are just a few examples of death and suffering that I have experienced in my life. Death is a part of life. All of us must some day experience the event. Even now that I am closer to the event,  I still can’t answer the question, How do I want to die?

Blogging made easier

I am not a promoter of Microsoft, but, Windows Live Writer sure makes blogging easier. It has been around for a while. I don’t try all the new bells and whistles though. I am hesitant to load all these programs that is suppose to make your life easier.

I would not have loaded Windows Live Writer on my laptop but I wasn’t paying attention when the offer to upgrade Windows Live Messenger popped up. Windows Live Writer was part of the download and I did not catch that.

After I realized that I downloaded it I might as well try it. Linking to WordPress was easy. Now that I have tried it out it is much easier than using the WordPress blog entry process.

What I really like is the ease of adding a link or a photo to a blog entry. To add a link just click on insert hyperlink and follow the easy instructions.

This is simple to add a link

Adding a photo is just as easy. Click on insert a picture and follow the instructions.

You do have to be careful to have the cursor located where you want the insertion to be placed.

Now, since I tried Windows Live Writer, I think I will like it. It sure makes blogging easier and faster.

Another Scam to take your money

Received the following in an e-mail.  Passing it on to all that are interested.

It happened at Wal-Mart (Supercenter Store #1279,
10411 N Freeway 45, Houston , TX 77037 a month ago.

I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150, & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me  the bags. I saw a  cash-back of $40. I told her I didn’t request a cash back & to delete it.

She said  I’d have to take the $40  because she couldn’t delete it. I told her to call a supervisor.

Supervisor came & said I’d have to take it!  I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn’t paying interest on a cash advance!!!!! If they couldn’t delete it then they would have to delete the whole order.

So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order & re-scan everything!

The second time I looked at the electronic pad before I signed & a cash-back  of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it.
The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective.  (yeah, right!)

Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad wasn’t defective because she NEVER  offered me the $40 at the beginning.

Can you imagine how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift  how much money she pocketed?

Just to alert everyone. My coworker went to Milford, DE Wal-Mart last week.   She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along and didn’t  give her a receipt.

She asked the cashier for a receipt and the cashier was annoyed and gave it to her.  My coworker didn’t look at her receipt until later that night. The receipt  showed that she asked for $20 cash back.  SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK!

My coworker called Wal-Mart who investigated but could not see the cashier  pocket the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank and her niece told her this.

This is a new scam going on.  The cashier will key in that you asked for cash back  and then hand it to her friend who is the next person in line.

Please, please, please check your receipts right away when using credit or debit cards!
This is NOT limited to Wal-Mart, although they are the largest retailer so they have the  most incidents.

I am adding to this….My husband and I were in Wal-Mart North Salisbury and paying with a credit card.  When my husband went to sign the credit card signer, he just happened
to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the cashier that he did not ask nor want
cash back and she said this machine has been messing up and she canceled it.
We really didn’t think anything of it until we read this email.

I wonder how many “seniors” have been, or will be, “stung” by this one????
